Location

The center is located in Kaʻaʻawa, Hawaiʻi, a small beach community nestled between spectacular mountains and beautiful white sand beaches on the windward coast of Oahu. Ka`a`awa is a picturesque 45-minute drive from Honolulu International Airport. The grounds consist of over three acres of tropical rainforest ringed by the Koʻolau Mountains, and just steps from a white sand beach with amazing sunrises.

Legends abound from and around our location. The traditional land divisions (ahupuaʻa) of Hakipuʻu, Kualoa, Kaʻaʻawa, Makaua, and Kahana form one of the richest and most sacred parts of Hawaiʻi. It was here that the first heiau (temple) was constructed, where the high shrine to the great god Lono existed, and it was the center of one of the two priesthoods in ancient Hawaiʻi.

YOGA KAI FOUNDER/CREATOR LEAH VERNON

AFTER MOVING TO HAWAII IN EARLY 2014, LEAH WAS QUICKLY INSPIRED TO TAKE MY PRACTICE OUTSIDE OF THE STUDIO AND EVENTUALLY ONTO A PADDLE BOARD. ONCE SHE DISCOVERED THAT SUP WAS AN ACTUAL ACTIVITY, IT SPARKED HER INTEREST TO SHARE IT WITH OTHERS. SHE HAD ALREADY RECEIVED MY 200RYT AND IT WAS JUST FOUR SHORT MONTHS AFTER HER MOVE THAT SHE DECIDED TO GO BACK TO THE MAINLAND TO COMPLETE HER SUP YOGA TRAINING. ONCE SHE RETURNED TO THE ISLAND, SHE COMPLETED A LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION AS WELL AND BEGAN THE PROCESS OF BUILDING YOGA KAI. AT THE SAME TIME, SUP YOGA WAS BUILDING A NAME FOR ITSELF.

SHE WAS THE FIRST TO START PRACTICING AT ALA MOANA BEACH PARK WHICH WAS BOTH EXCITING AND CHALLENGING. AT THE TIME, IT WASN’T POPULAR SO SHE HAD TO CREATE A SYSTEM AND FIGURE EVERYTHING OUT AS SHE WENT. ALL SHE WANTED TO DO WAS BE ON THE WATER, TO GUIDE STUDENTS THROUGH A NEW EXPERIENCE, AND TO MAKE NEW FRIENDS MAKING EVERY BIT OF WORK WELL WORTH IT. WE HOPE YOU ENJOY WHAT SHE HAS WORKED SO HARD TO BUILD AND CONTINUE TO STRENGTHEN AND GROW. LOVE AND LIGHT FRIENDS! KEEP RISING!

YOGA KAI OWNER-OPERATER JULIA FINCHER

CALI RAISED, HAWAII FLED, LOVER OF LAND, SKY AND SEA! MEET JULIA FINCHER, FULL TIME STAY AT BEACH MOMMA OF THREE, PLUS ONE FUR BABY, BOOKKEEPER FOR HER SMALL FAMILY BUSINESS, AND NOW THE OWNER OF YOGA KAI. SHE HAS BEEN TEACHING YOGA ON LAND SINCE 2014 AND ON WATER (SUP YOGA) SINCE 2016.

JULIA COMPLETED HER 200 HR TEACHER TRAINING FROM HER BELOVED TEACHER LISA ASHA RAPP WITH HER YOGA SPIRIT. VERY SHORTLY AFTER THAT JULIA RECEIVED HER 25 HR INTENSIVE TEACHER TRAINING FROM ONE OF HER GREATEST INSPIRATIONS AND TEACHERS, LEAH VERNON, YOGA KAI'S FOUNDER.

TAKING HER FLOWS FROM LAND TO SEA HAS BEEN AN EXTREMELY HUMBLING AND GRATIFYING EXPERIENCE FOR JULIA. SHE ENCOURAGES STUDENTS TO FULLY CONNECT WITH THE ELEMENTS OF NATURE AND DEEPLY TAP INTO CONSCIOUSNESS WITH BODY, MIND AND SPIRIT. JULIA LOVES OFFERING A LIGHTHEARTED FLOW SINCE PRACTICING ON WATER CAN BE EXTREMELY INTIMIDATING! HER GOAL IS TO SHARE HER DEEP ROOTED LOVE AND PASSION FOR YOGA WITH YOU ALL
